blue and white dream

Having photographed animals for the past couple of months at the local shelter has really taught me to set aside my emotions in order to get the job done; it is some what like being desensitised. I know that it is important to "feel" for the subject, but in the case of shelter animals, it may be a little too emotionally dangerous to be too attached to them.

The reason is really simple but is the hard fact of life in the shelters. And that is that for reasons like preventing of overcrowding and so on, animals are humanely put to sleep. Some may think that it is cruel and all but one has to be realistic and know that shelters around the world usually work on a very tight budget and space. Putting animals to sleep is really part and parcel of their job and those who criticise shelters for putting animals to sleep should really try to understand from where the shelters are coming from.

I am very sure that those who work in shelters fully love and care for the animals and it is just as hard or even harder for them when they need to put animals to sleep. But someone just has to get the job done. I think the trick to being able to move on and detach oneself from all that emotion is really to leave as much emotion as possible as one leaves the cages.

Well at least that is what I try to do but must admit that it can be really hard at times. At the end of the day, I am human and will sort of have some preference to some of the animals. Yes, I admit that it can come as a shock (as much as I know it is very much a possibility) when some of the animals that have grown on to me are put to sleep but I just have to remind myself that I have move on.

Anyway, these couple of dogs are some of those that just grow onto you. I do not think that they have been put to sleep and have probably been adopted out to a loving family. They are really a total joy. The first little gorgeous is super hyper and loves splashing into the tub of water he has in his pen. He is very bubbly and is probably as affectionate as any dog can be. The second is a feisty little girl who loves to all the attention she gets. She along with her siblings are very lively and full of energy and I think people who see them in flesh will just fall for them.
